Physical Therapy

Although often used together, physical therapy and rehabilitation are closely related but different concepts. Physical therapy covers the diagnosis and treatment of physical and functional disorders. It is a very comprehensive non-pharmaceutical form of treatment that includes hot-cold applications, electric currents, massage and exercise to relieve pain and is applied in musculoskeletal system diseases or benefits.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is a very broad term, literally meaning the restoration of lost functions. Compared to physical therapy, it is a longer process that requires the patient’s active participation and effort in the treatment. It is a set of treatments aimed at restoring lost mobility, whether congenital or acquired. Today, the proportion of the elderly population is gradually increasing due to the increase in life expectancy in parallel with the advances in medicine and the increase in health awareness, and many chronic and degenerative diseases are more common. In addition, automation in agriculture and industry has significantly reduced the processes based on human labor. In urban life, the proportion of people working in desk jobs is increasing. All this creates a population profile that sits more and exercises less. At this point, the importance of physical therapy and rehabilitation is becoming increasingly evident. Physical therapy and rehabilitation is commonly applied in cases such as musculoskeletal pain, rheumatic diseases, sports injuries, joint calcification, lumbar and cervical hernias, preservation of joint movement and muscle strength after fractures, knee and shoulder problems, acceleration of recovery by preserving the patient’s joint movement and muscle strength after joint replacement surgeries, spinal curvature (scoliosis), stroke, spinal cord injury, MS, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy (CP) and muscle diseases.

Joint Calcification

Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis, arthrosis), also known as arthritis, is the most common rheumatic disease worldwide. In general, the most common cause of arthritis is degeneration and fluid loss in the structures that make up the joint due to aging, but in some cases, we may encounter arthritis at a young age.

Lumbar and Neck Hernias

Our discs, located between the bones called vertebrae that make up our spine, provide optimal load distribution during movement. For various reasons, degeneration and tears can occur in the discs and the part of the disc that provides elasticity can come out and contact the nerves and cause pain, numbness, tingling and loss of strength.

Fibromyalgia

It is a chronic disease that does not cause limitation of movement in the joints but impairs the quality of life. Although the cause of the disease is unknown, it is associated with many conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression, heavy work tempo, humid environment, sleep disorders, prolonged computer use.

Knee Problems

The knee joint is the largest joint in the human body. It plays a key role in balanced body weight bearing and walking. We frequently encounter knee problems as a result of advancing age, obesity, heavy work and unconscious sportive activities.

Shoulder Problems

The shoulder joint has the largest range of motion in the human body. While this wide range of motion increases the function of the joint, it also makes the joint more susceptible to injury. In addition, in case of dysfunction, it seriously affects the daily life of the person.
